YOUNGSTOWN-Services will be Tuesday at 8:45 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for Patrick A. Vicarel age 82 of Paisley Ave. Who passed away suddenly Friday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Patrick was born April 15, 1922, in Youngstown, the son of Dominic and Angeline DeMain Vicarel. He was a 1941 graduate of East High School, and had served with Army Air Corps 513th Fighter Squadron in the European Theater during W.W. II. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. An avid bowler he managed bowling lanes for over 38 years before retiring. First at Southway Lanes, and Warren Bowl, and later at McGuffey Lanes. He had started the areas first High School League at Southway Lanes. In 1950 he had conducted the Ohio State Tournament at Southway Lanes, and again in 1970 hosted the Ohio State Woman's Association Tournament at McGuffey Lanes, these tournaments alone brought thousands of bowlers, and dollars to our community. In 1972 Pat hosted the largest City tournament of its time at McGuffey Lanes which included 404 Teams, 581 Doubles, and 1162 Single participants. Pat was selected to serve on the Youngstown Men's Bowling Association Hall of Fame selection committee where he served two terms. From 1948 to 1970 Pat bowled in 11 different leagues with a 193 average, he had bowled over 25 years with the Youngstown Mens Bowling Association with a career average 186, and had bowled in 7 National Tournaments, 10 state, and 25 YMBA tournaments. In 2002 he was named to the Youngstown Bowling Association Hall of Fame for his dedication to the sport. Pat was known by many as the "Pepper King" for his love of growing peppers and sharing them with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Dolores whom he married October of 1964, a daughter Pamela James Cofran of Marietta, GA, a son James Donna Vicarel of Austell, GA, a step son Fred Reali III of Ft. Lauderdale, FLA., a sister Doris Jerry Luebnitz of Michigan, two brothers Fred Rita Vicarel of Youngstown, and Jack Fritz Vicarel of Struthers, two grandchildren Jennifer M. Driscoll, and Cara Vicarel.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dawn, and Mary and six brothers, Daniel, Ralph, Babe, Lou, Joseph, and Bug.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Monday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
