AUSTINTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Paul David Genther Hayes, 89, who died Monday afternoon at Hospice House surrounded by his family.
Paul was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Wheeling, W.Va., to William Addison and Mary Jane (Davis) Genther. He was raised by Clifford and Sally Hayes.
His wife, and love of his life, the former Nancy Vivo, whom he married April 7, 1947, died July 28, 2010.
Paul is survived by two daughters, Judith (Ronald) Nelson of Canfield and Mary Jane (William) Liberato of Canfield; a son, Paul W. (Debi) Hayes of Champion; eight grandchildren, Kristina (Roger) Herrmann, Ron (Danielle) Nelson, Kara (Gabe) Scoggin, Michael Cunningham, Ryan Cunningham, Emily Hayes, Angela (Jason) Howse, Kathryn (Doug) Weaver; and 11 great-grandchildren, Brent, Karis, Brooklyn, Harper, Palmer, Nikalis, Braedyn, Katie, Austin, William, Brandon. He is also survived by a brother, Jerry (Janice) Genther of West Virginia.
Several other brothers and sisters have preceded Paul in death.
Paul was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
He was a very proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country honorably during World War II. He retired from Republic Steel, where he was employed for 40 years.
Paul loved his recreational activities with his children. His favorites being his casino and horse racing adventures, playing and listening to his music, fishing, watching the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, and enjoying his chocolate frosties and his Belleria Pizza!
Family and friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), c/o Brooklyn's Busy Bees, 225 City Ave., Suite 104, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to the staff (his other family) at Hampton Woods, Poland, and the Hospice House for the care and compassion given to Paul.
Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
