BOARDMAN-A mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Monday at 5:00 PM at St. Charles Church for Paul Joseph Matey age 86 of Boardman who left this world on Thursday evening Dec. 18th surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born June 29, 1917, in Throop, Pa., the son of Joseph and Margaret Tabacka Matey, and raised his family in New Castle, Pa. He served his country in the US Navy from 1935 to 1939, and later during W.W.II. While in the Navy Paul served on the USS Yarnell, Winslow, and the Wasp. Paul was a very active community volunteer through the RSVP program, Service to Seniors, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and the Youngstown Playhouse. He was an active member of St. Charles Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Boardman, and Poland Chapters of AARP, VFW Post # 3538 in Struthers, and the Chatter Box Club. He was also an avid gardener, and was a former member of the Youngstown Men's Garden Club. Paul will be sadly missed by all who new and loved him especially his wife of 64 yrs. the former Mary V. Chorba, his daughters Marianne Jording of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Pauline and Jack Wyrie of New Philadelphia, Oh., and Margaret and Ben Ward of Upland, Ca., his son Dennis and Sherry Matey of New Springfield, Oh., eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Besides his parents Joseph and Margaret Matey, he was preceded in death by an infant son Richard Matey. In lieu of flowers the family requests that material tributes take the form of donations in Paul's name to either Hospice of the Valley or the building fund at St. Charles Church. Friends may call from 4 PM till the time of service Monday evening at St. Charles Church.
