BOARDMAN - Paula Peterson, 66, died unexpectedly Friday morning at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Paula was born Jan. 3, 1951, in Youngstown, the daughter of Paul and Helen (Esping) Peterson.
She was a 1969 graduate of Boardman High School and earned a Bachelor degree in Education from The University of Mt. Union. She later continued her education and earned a Master's degree.
Paula was a teacher for the Austintown School District for 35 years until she retired. She volunteered her time at Akron Children's Hospital's Community Outreach Reach Out to Read Program, and a local doctor's office.
Paula enjoyed reading and was a literacy advocate for children.
Paula is survived by her sister, Jean (Pete) Cook of Hudson; brother David (Mary Jayne) Peterson of Boardman; nieces and nephews, Maura Peterson, Alison Cook, Christopher Cook, and Ryan (Katie) Cook; and great-nephews, Holden and Vince Cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Per Paula's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley, Community Outreach Reach Out to Read Program, 100 DeBartolo Pl. Suite 115, Boardman, OH 44512.
