YOUNGSTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Matthias Church with Fr. Stephen Popovich officiating, the son of Pauline Martha Popovich, 81, who passed away on Aug. 7, 2011, at the Humility House in Austintown.
Pauline was born on Feb. 4, 1930, a daughter of Frank and Rose Mary Smith.
She was a member of St. Matthias Church and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. Pauline was a faith filled gracious lady who was an inspiration to anyone who met her. She was an extraordinary example to her family of a woman whose faith kept her going every day.
Pauline loved praying the rosary daily and had a special love for the Blessed Virgin. She taught her family the importance of being strong-willed and to never lose your patience. Her family enjoyed and will miss her awesome cooking and baking. When not taking care of her family, she enjoyed gardening and sewing. Pauline loved the San Antonio Spurs and was an avid fan of Manu Ginobili.
Her husband, the former Charles M. Popovich, whom she married on July 22, 1950, passed away on March 1, 1993.
Pauline will be sadly missed and remembered by many, including her three sons, Fr. Stephen Popovich, Pastor of St. Paul the Apostle, New Middletown, Charles Mary of West Newton, Pa., and John Andrea of Lancaster, Calif. She also will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Margie Mike Cretella of Austintown and Elizabeth Scott Curtis of University Heights.
Pauline was a devoted and proud grandmother of her six grandchildren, Mike Risa Cretella of Akron, Tony Stefanie Cretella of South Carolina, Joe Cretella of Columbus, Joshua and Monica Popovich of California and Jacob Curtis of University Heights. They will miss her love, sense of humor and tenderness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Eddie; brothers, Bobby, Eddie, Paul and Raymond; and sisters, Frances, Betty, Rose and Mary.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Humility House for the exceptional care, compassion and love shown to Pauline while she lived there for 15 months. Pauline truly loved the staff and residents at the Humility House and considered it her home.
Friends may call Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
The family requests that material contributions take the form of donations to St. Matthias Renovation Fund, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center Fund, St. Paul the Apostle Building Fund or the Humility House in Pauline's memory.
