POLAND - Prayers will begin Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., for Pearl E. Kocan, 84, who died Thursday afternoon at home.
Pearl was born May 2, 1930, in Youngstown, to Stephen F. and Elizabeth Kozak Ivan.
Pearl worked at Sparkle Market as a cashier for 28 years until retiring in 1981. She also worked several years at The Attic Quilt Shop in Columbiana. Together, she and her husband owned Baskin Robins in Boardman for 10 years.
Pearl was a former member of St. Dominic Church and a recent member of the Holy Family Church. She was also a member of the TQGIBT (Quilt) Club.
She was an avid Cleveland Indian and Cavaliers fan and enjoyed trips to Mountaineer and walking at the mall. Pearl loved making quilts and had many of her pieces shown at the Canfield Fair.
She is survived by three sons, Stephen R (Ilona) Kocan of Broadview Heights, Richard A. Kocan of Boardman, and Robert J. Kocan of Perry; a brother, Arthur S. Ivan of Poland; four grandchildren, David (Nida) Kocan, John (Melissa) Kocan, Elizabeth Kocan, and Jessica (Andy) Green; and several nieces and nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, John Kocan, who died Oct. 3, 2012; and her brother, Robert Ivan.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the America Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406.
