Peter Dietz

September 13, 1962 — December 1, 2012

COLUMBUS - A prayer service will begin Friday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, Youngstown, for Peter Beard Dietz, 50, who passed away on Saturday at Riverside Methodist Hospital surrounded by his family after a short illness.

Mr. Dietz was born in Youngstown on Sept. 13, 1962, the son of Carolynn Beard Dietz and the late Dr. George H. Dietz.

He graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1981, and then received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and an Associates of Arts in Economics from Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky. in 1986. After earning his college degrees, he continued his education, pursuing courses at Youngstown State University in Art.

He was a very gifted artist and was known locally for drawing pet portraits in pencil and chalk. He had various jobs in his lifetime but eventually became self-employed after finding a niche, tied to his artistic talent, in installing ceramic tile.

He was a devout Catholic and was active in his parish, St. Andrews in Columbus. He was a big supporter of the church's various fundraising campaigns, offering another one of his talents - baking specialty cakes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a fourth degree member of the St. Dominic Bishop Fenwick Council Member 13586, and he was a past member of the Youngstown Maennerchor.

He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye's fan, loved to golf and cook, and enjoyed traveling, especially internationally. After high school, he coached girls slow-pitch softball with Boardman Youth Baseball for many years, and served that organization in a variety of volunteer capacities.

Besides his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Susan Evan Saunders and Carrie Dietz, both of Columbus; four brothers, George Dietz Jr. of Boardman, Dr. Andrew Betsy Dietz of Marlton, N.J., Atty. James Denise Dietz of Canfield, and Christopher Deana Dietz of North Olmsted; three nephews, James Dietz Jr., Luke Dietz and Alexander Dietz; and a niece, Fiona Carolynn Dietz.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
