GIRARD - Prayers will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Peter J. Shuntich, 82, who passed away Monday at his home.
Peter was born July 18, 1931, in Youngstown, a son of the late Peter and Helen (Kuharich) Shuntich Sr.
Peter graduated with the Class of 1948 from Struthers High School. Peter spent four years in the USAFSS, serving as a cryptanalyst for NSA. His tours of duty included Japan and Korea. He owned and operated Heights Superette in McKinley Heights. He also owned Heights Salvage.
Peter is survived by his wife, the former Annabelle Kiger, whom he married June 9, 1956; a daughter, Karen (Scott) McCreary of Poland; and two sons, David (Marijo) Shuntich of Beaver Township and Gregory Shuntich of Brookfield. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Angela, Alicia, Aaron, and Adam Shuntich, Shannon and Evan McCreary.
Peter was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Bechdolt and a brother, Richard Shuntich.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
