Youngstown- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30AM Saturday at the Holy Name of Jesus Church with Rev. Msgr. Peter Polando officiating, and prayers offered at 9:00AM in the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mr. Philip J. Cogar, age 76, of Youngstown, who died Monday afternoon in Grand Strand Hospital in Myrtle Beach, SC surrounded by his family.
Philip was born April 16, 1932 in Webster Springs, West Virginia to the Late Okey and Thelma Belknap Cogar.
He was a member of Holy Name Church, and the Catholic War Vets Post 1292 for many years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed Softball.
Mr. Cogar retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Briar Hill Works with over 32 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during peace time, he was stationed in Maine.
He loved spending time with his family and friends at their condo in Myrtle Beach.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters Sharon and Lisa, and a brother Lloyd.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Mary E. Ronan Cogar who he married October 7, 1953; two daughters, Raelene Mark Kish of Youngstown, Mary Ellen Thomas of Hubbard, a son Jim Doreen Cogar of Canfield; nine grandchildren, Jim, Erica, Matthew, Joshua, Philip, Nicholas, Scott, Amy, and Melissa, and a great granddaughter Kensie; two brothers, Norman Edwina Cogar of Florida, and Gene Katie Cogar of Youngstown.
