YOUNGSTOWN ? Phoebe R. Grapes, 84, passed away on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at her home.
Phoebe was born on Dec. 8, 1926, in Barberton, a daughter of William and Ethel Stonebrook Brown. She and her family moved to Youngstown in 1938.
A member of St. Christine Church, she loved her Lord, Jesus Christ and her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter were clearly the light of her life.
She loved to cook and host gatherings of family and friends. She had previously worked at The Toddle House Restaurant, as well as McKelvey?s, Strouss? and a haberdashery in downtown Youngstown.
However, her greatest legacy will be the host of children whose lives she touched throughout the years, teaching them through word and deed in her career as childcare specialist.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Robert Grapes, with whom she made her home; daughters, Kristine Gregory and Maureen Rev. Chris Yambar; granddaughters, Sarah Dan Fisher and Leah Gregory; great-granddaughter Faith Fisher; sister Jo-ann Duke; sister-in-law Evaline Schmidt; special lifelong friends, Evelyn and Andy Pernotto and Keith and Carole Nelsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phoebe was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Grapes, whom she married on Oct. 24, 1947, and who died on May 6, 1998; two sisters, Mary Ellen Bailey and Katherine Kolb; and a brother, William Brown.
Friends may call from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Monday Jan. 10, where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, 4303 Mahoning Ave. in Austintown.
