CAPE CORAL, FLA. - Phyllis LaGuardia, who happily celebrated her 83rd birthday on May 13, with her children by her side, passed from this life on May 23, 2013, at Cape Coral Hospital, Cape Coral, Fla., after a brief illness.
After a life spent in Youngstown, she enjoyed her retirement years living both here and with her daughters in Cape Coral. She delighted in spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she loved deeply. Phyllis was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook. She loved to prepare holiday and Sunday meals.
Phyllis was a 1948 graduate of The Rayen High School. She was a member of the Hollowette Social Club, Garden Club, Astros Club, Alba Lodge, and she also distributed meals to the homebound as a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. She loved crafts, decorating and gardening.
She was a long-time, active member of St. Patrick Church, Youngstown and most recently of Holy Family Parish, Poland.
Phyllis leaves two daughters, Joan LaGuardia of Cape Coral and Laura LaGuardia (husband Greg Smith) of Cape Coral; a son, William LaGuardia (wife, JoAnn) of Youngstown; five beloved and dear grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and Ann Marie Hayden, Gina Ferraro, Billy and Marisa LaGuardia; two sisters, Dolores Oles (husband, Ben, deceased) of Youngstown and Joan Jones (husband Wendell) of Youngstown; brother Ralph (wife, Pearl) of Youngstown; sister-in-law Antionette "Toni" Ricciardulli of Youngstown; and many dear and beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, William LaGuardia, who passed away in October of 2005; a very dear aunt, Mary Thomas of Youngstown; and also a dear uncle, Joe Pilla of Youngstown.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Holy Family Church, Poland, on Saturday, June 15, at 10 a.m. Family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any charity of the donor's choice.
Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
