Rachel M. Carney

CANFIELD - Rachel M. Carney, 90, passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at the Shepherd of the Valley in Poland, OH. 

Rachel was born May 21, 1934 in Youngstown, OH, daughter of Pasquale and Adele (Stella) Scali. She graduated from Rayen High School in 1952 and shortly after married Jack P. Carney Jr. on December 26, 1953. 

She was a homemaker and a wonderful cook. Rachel loved, above all else, spending time with her family whether it be for a holiday celebration or babysitting her grandchildren. She also loved spending time in Myrtle Beach with her husband, Jack. 

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Jack P. Carney Jr., parents Pasquale and Adele Scali, and five brothers, Fred Scali, Lou Scali, Patsy Scali, Mauro Scali, and John Scali. 

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Micki (Jim) Kovach of Canfield, OH, and son Jack (Linda) Carney of Surprise, AZ. Her memory will also live on through her four grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nanu, Krista (Matt) Schmied and Lauren (Gary) Flauto of Boardman, OH, and Rachel (Charlie) Herrin and Ryan Carney of Surprise, AZ. She will also be missed by her six great grandsons Landon, Tyler, Jack, Beau, Hunter, and Lucas. 

There will be calling hours for Rachel at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home -  Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr's Centre Dr., Canfield, OH, from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Friday, September 20, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 10:00am at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Parish, located at 7345 Westview Dr., Boardman, OH. There will be calling hours at the church before the funeral mass from 9:00 to 9:45am. 

The family would like to deeply thank the staff at Shepherd of the Valley in Poland, OH, for their loving and compassionate care for Rachel over the last five years.
