Rafik Helmy Boutros of Canfield, Ohio passed away on March 25, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center at the age of 63.
Born in Alexandria, Egypt on December 10, 1945 to Helmy and Awatef Boutros, Rafik grew with siblings Samih Mary Boutros of Red Deer, Alberta; Camelia Sabry Gabriel of London, England; Sabri Shadia Boutros of Cairo, Egypt; and the late Sophie Salah Ragheb.
Rafik met Cybele Wassef, the love of his life, while at Cairo University Medical School, and on May 28, 1972 they were married in Cairo, Egypt.
Before settling in Canfield, Rafik served in the Egyptian Air Force and practiced medicine in Cairo Egypt and Liverpool England. For the past 21 years, Rafik practiced as an anesthesiologist and pain management specialist
with Bel-Park Anesthesia Associates at St Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown.
Rafik was a member of St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church in Ambridge, PA. He always enjoyed spending time with his extended family, close friends and enjoyed lively debates on current events and technology. Rafik's interests included international travel destinations, wine tasting, reading and European cars.
Rafik was a kind, caring and generous husband, father, son, brother, uncle and colleague. He was a dear friend to many both personally and
professionally.
Rafik is survived by his wife Cybele, 2 sons: Sameh of Oakland, California and Joseph of Austin, Texas, and the beloved family dog: Coco. Rafik chose to give the gift of life by being an organ donor.
Visiting hours will take place on Saturday March 28th at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home at 3701 Starr's Centre Drive, Canfield from 5-8pm.
Services will be held on Sunday March 29th at St John's Greek Orthodox Church 4955 Glenwood Ave, Boardman at 3 PM.
A private burial service will be held on Monday morning with his family.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations in Rafik's name to Doctors Without Borders, one of his favorite charities.
