YOUNGSTOWN Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Ralph ³Cooch² Cocucci, 80, who passed away Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Ralph was born Oct. 9, 1927 in Youngstown, the son of Vincenzo and Giovannina Porfilio Cocucci.
He was a 1948 graduate of South High School, where he played football for the Warriors. He was a WWII Navy Veteran.
Ralph worked in the construction field and the steel industries, most notably for Truscon and Wean United Engineering. During Ralph¹s 25 years as a welder at United Engineering, he served as a union safety steward. He also worked in the tavern business for many years and was the proprietor of Ralph¹s Place and the Empire Club in Fosterville.
He was a charter member of St. Christine Church and a member of the American Legion, the ITAM, and the Eagles.
He was an avid sports fan and a lifelong follower of the New York Yankees. As a teenager, Ralph boxed in the lightweight division at Idora Park. He later coached the original Mill Creek Girls Ponytail League.
Ralph was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, the former Gloria Rita Arquilla, whom he married May 15, 1954, and died Oct. 13, 1999.
Ralph leaves to cherish his memory his children, Lori Will Bagnola of Canfield, Vincent Cocucci of Youngstown, Linda Bert Ziccardi of Monroeville, Pa., and Judith Cocucci of Boardman.
The joys of his life were his friends and family and his granddaughters, who will especially miss their ³Pa,² Angeline Rich, Francesca Bagnola, Gabrielle Cocucci and Camille Bagnola.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Camillo Cocucci.
