Raymond L. Baker, 77
POLAND Prayer services will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the
Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel and at noon at the Holy Family
Church for Raymond L. Baker, 77, who passed away peacefully early Wednesday
morning.
Mr. Baker was born Nov. 29, 1930 in Campbell, the son of Michael and Anna
Dill Baker.
Mr. Baker was a 1948 graduate of Ursuline High School and was a member of
their Athletic Hall of Fame. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy
and served aboard the USS Toledo. He saw action during the Invasion at
Inchon and received 3 Battle Stars during the Korean War. He was honorably
discharged in 1952.
He was a 1956 graduate of Youngstown State University and later was an
instructor in their School of Engineering for seven years. He worked for 35
years at US Steel, first in Industrial Engineering and later in the Open
Hearth. In 1980, he transferred to US Steel Fairless Works in Fairless
Hills, Pa. He retired as Area Manager, Steel Producing in 1991. He was
president of the Kappa Sigma Kappa fraternity.
Over the years he was a member of St. Christine¹s, St. Charles and Holy
Family parishes and the U.S. Steel Retirees Golf League.
Besides his wife, the former Audrey ³Dottie² Ruane, whom he married Jan. 21,
1956; he leaves three sons, Mark Ruby of Yucaipa, Calif., David Ursula
of Poland and Michael Maureen of Newtown, Pa.; a brother, Joseph Baker of
Struthers; and six grandchildren, Shannon, Christie, David, Matthew, Caitlin
and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Marge Hanuschak ,
Helen Baker, Eleanor Naymick, and Ethel Martin.
Calling hours will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 to
11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
