YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. Raymond Price Dickey, 69, who died peacefully Monday morning at his home, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, with Pastor Fred Schrock as celebrant.
Mr. Dickey, affectionately known as "Ray," was born on July 13, 1947, in Youngstown, the son of Edwin and Madeline (Romanelli) Dickey, and remained a lifelong area resident.
Ray was a 1965 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. Following high school graduation, Ray attended Youngstown State University before being drafted into the U.S. Army. His faithful and courageous service to his country began on Jan. 8, 1968. Ray served during the Vietnam War with the second of the first Calvary and the first 69 Armor Scouts, earning the rank of SP4, and was awarded several decorations and medals for his service including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Sharpshooter Badge.
Ray was honorably discharged on Feb. 25, 1969, but still remained very active in various veteran organizations. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0301, V.F.W. post No. 237, and was a life member of the Disabled Veterans. He worked as a supervisor at GM in Lordstown for 18 years, before buying Dickey's Bar and Grill in 1983. He proudly owned and operated his small town bar ever since, making so many great friends along the way.
Ray leaves to cherish all their wonderful memories, his mother, Madeline M. Dickey of North Lima; his loving wife, Cindy Zimmerman-Dickey, whom he married on May 26, 2016; brother Edwin (Mickey) Dickey of Phoenix; and his girls from Dickey's Bar and Grill, whom he cared so much about, Judi, Jaime Becky, and Jodi.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Dickey.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and again Thursday morning from 9 to 9:50 a.m. at the funeral home.
Ray will be laid to rest with full military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman following the service.
