CANFIELD - Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1463 Shields Road, with Pastor Burl Jernigan officiating, for Raymond Gearhart Jr., 82, who left his family May 11, surrounded by love.
He was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Philipsburg, Pa., the son of Raymond L. and Mary Davis Gearhart.
He attended a one room school in Philipsburg with his siblings and completed high school at South High. Raymond was married in November of 1950, to the former Mildred M. Kamrad.
He was a 50 year member of Operating Engineering Union 66. He worked for United Excavating for several years and was a deacon for Calvary Baptist. He was a member of the Saxon Club and Eagles. He was also involved with many community projects with and for his children.
Raymond leaves to honor his memories, his children, E. Lynne Lissimore of Austintown, Raymond B. Maribeth Gearhart, with whom he made his home with in Canfield and Cosette Schweikert of Columbus; six grandchildren, Kene Mary Lissimore of New Charleston, S.C., Eric Becky Lissimore of Austintown, Jessica Schweikert Mark of Columbus, Bradley Schweikert of Akron, Kristy Gearhart of Youngstown and his grandson and best friend Geoffrey Natalie Gearhart of Canfield; eight great-grandchildren of South Carolina; and three sisters, Gail Owens of Canfield and Mary Jane Gearhart and Liz John Ray, both of Austintown.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, E. Cate Mesmer on April 30, 2011, and Deanna White; and two brothers Joe and Norman Gearhart.
Family and friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church.
As a sign of condolence, contributions can be made to Angels for Animals to give aid to canine friends of Toby and Shiner.
Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
