Raymond Stein

February 20, 1931 — September 23, 2008

YOUNGSTOWN ­ Prayers will begin Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Austintown for Raymond K. ³Ray² Stein, 77, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon at Hospice House of the Valley surrounded by his family after a brief and unexpected illness.

Ray was born on Feb. 20, 1931 in Youngstown, a son of Frank and Anna Becker Stein.

Ray graduated in 1949 from South High School, where he played the trumpet in the school band. He worked at Commercial Shearing and Stamping Commercial Intertech for 42 years and retired in October of 1993. He served in the
U.S. Army attaining the rank of specialist 4th class during the Korean conflict. Ray was a member of the Austintown Eagles Aerie No. 3298. He was a tremendous car enthusiast. He often worked on cars and spent much time
viewing shows from the turn of the century. His love was a 52¹ Packard, the car he polished before proposing to his wife, Mary K. Stein, who precedes him in his passing.

He leaves his children, Deborah Ron Parrag, Barb Stiner, Mary ³Betsy² Howard, Ray Lori Stein and Charlene ³Cherrie² Stein, all of Youngstown. He also leaves his sister, Thelma Amendol; a sister-in-law, Barbara Erickson of New Springfield; and a brother-in-law, John Erickson of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Andy, Jason, Ashley, and Matthew Stiner, Chuck, A.J., and Mike Greenwalt, Eddie and Brandon Hughes, Ryan Stein, Jude and Sean Koury, and Justin Lemmo; nine great-grandchildren; and many wonderful lifelong caring friends.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care and suggests that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley.
