CANFIELD - Rev. David L. Sherrard was glorified on Dec. 30, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Hospice House, at the age of 64.
The celebration of his life spent on this earth will begin with calling hours on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Old North Church in Canfield. A celebration service will be on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at 10 a.m., also at the Old North Church.
Immediately following, Rev. Sherrard will be laid to rest at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
Rev. Sherrard leaves his wife of 43 years, Linda Sherrard; four children, Kristina Sherrard (Ervin), married to John Ervin, and their children are Maria Ervin, Lillian Ervin, and John (Juan) Ervin; Jennifer Sherrard (Senn), married to Bruce Senn, and their children are Abbigail Senn and Isabella Senn; his son, David L. Sherrard Jr.; and Kathleen Sherrard (Gadd), married to Isaac Gadd; his brother, Frank Sherrard; and his sister-in-law, Debbie Sweet and her children, Brad Sweet and Samantha Sweet.
Rev. Sherrard served as the executive director of the Detroit City Rescue Ministries. He relocated to Ohio, where he served as the executive director of the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley for 23 years. He then retired to being a chaplin at Millwood Incorporated. Rev. Sherrard served on the Board of Education for Howland Christian School, the Board of Directors at Teen Straight Talk, the district president of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions, and the first president of the Youngstown Homeless Coalition.
Rev. Sherrard was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer on June 14, 2013. He sought treatment at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Chicago. He ministered there to patients, staff and caregivers, alike, as he received treatments. He never stopped sharing the good news of the gospel and what Jesus has done for him.
