Rev. Stephen Bakos, 94
YOUNGSTOWN There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday at
the Our Lady of Hungary Parish, 545 N. Belle Vista Ave., for Rev. Stephen
Bakos, 94, Pastor Emeritus of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, who died Friday,
Aug. 31, at Austinwoods Care Center.
Father Bakos was born Sept. 5, 1912 in Foldeak, Hungry.
He was ordained on March 22, 1936 in Hungary by the Most Rev. Julius
Glattfelder and served in the Diocese of Lafayette, La., before coming to
the Diocese of Youngstown as associate pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Warren
in 1954.
Father Bakos also served as associate pastor of St. Mary Parish in Warren
from 1964 to 1968. In 1968, he was named pastor of St, Francis of Assisi
Parish in Youngstown, where he served until its closing in December of 1978.
He retired Jan. 1, 1979.
Prior to entering the Seminary, he served in the Hungarian Army.
