POLAND - Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel for Richard J. Dill Sr., 97, who passed away Tuesday morning at Sunrise of Poland.
Richard was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Struthers, a son of the late George E. and Bessie (Fithian) Dill Sr.
Richard served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in North Africa and Italy.
He retired in 1978, after 40 years as a master machinist for Republic Steel.
He was a member of the Argus Lodge No. 545 in Canfield, Lowellville Rod and Gun Club, Hillsville Sportsman Association, Sportsmen's Club of Forest County in Pennsylvania and the VFW Post No. 3538 in Struthers.
His wife, the former Evelyn I. Carbaugh, whom he married Sept. 17, 1941, passed away Jan. 10, 2004.
Richards leaves his three daughters, Mary Jayne (Vernon) Brown of Poland, Eileen (Robert) Mapes of Westerville, and Caroline Lindsey of Poland; a son, Richard J. (Judy) Dill Jr. of Lowellville; 10 grandchildren, Thomas Hoffman, David Hoffman, Sean Melvin, Taisha Davis, Tracey Moose, Sean Koval, Kristen Mosure, Jason Koval, Jonathan Dill and Justin Dill; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and three great-nieces.
Richard was also preceded in death by a daughter, Georgiann (Ted) Cornelison; a sister, LaVerne Reilly; a brother, George E. Dill Jr.; and a niece, Kathleen Frazier.
Family and friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
