YOUNGSTOWN - Prayers will begin Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Church for Richard Kennedy, 87, who died Saturday morning at home.
Richard was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Youngstown, to Patrick F. and Margaret M. Farmer Kennedy.
He was a 1948 graduate of Ursuline High School, where he played on the football team. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Richard began working for the Youngstown Police Department in 1950, and retired as a Captain. After retirement, Richard worked as a bailiff in the municipal court and later in probate court.
Richard was a member of St. Brendan Church and the F.O.P.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Christine "Tina" Martin; a son, Richard Kennedy of Youngstown; and two brothers, Dennis (Shirley) Kennedy of Austintown and Austin Kennedy of Lake Milton.
Richard was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Evens and Margaret Conroy; and six brothers, Thomas, Patrick, John, Robert, Maurice, and Jerome "Mike" Kennedy.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
