Austintown- A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM Thursday in the St. Christine Church and at 9:15am in the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Richard ?Dick? Mitchell, age 82 of Austintown, who died Monday afternoon in the Hospice House.
Dick was born March 11, 1925 in Youngstown to the late Ernest and Helen Gardner Mitchell.
He was a 1943 graduate of Chaney High School, A veteran of WWII, serving in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre, specifically in the Aleutians.
Dick retired from the Choffin Career Center in 1986 with over 19 years of service.
He was a member of the Church where he served as a Usher; he also belonged to the Youngstown Saxon Club where he enjoyed Bocce, Pinnacle, and the golf league.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy Burke Mitchell whom he married, October 17, 2003. four daughters, Mary Russ Lamping of Poland, Meg McKelvey of Youngstown, Katie Joe Wise of Vienna, Patty Garchar of Columbus; five sons, Dennis Julie Mitchell of Des Moines, IA, Robert Ilene Mitchell of Hubbard, James Mitchell of Boardman, John Coni Mitchell of Youngstown, Thomas Kelly Mitchell of Columbus. Step Children, Peter Kelly Burke of Columbus, and Lisa Burke of Niles; 30 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, wife Peggy Monroe Mitchell in 1997, son, Breen Mitchell, and brother James Mitchell.
Friends may call Wedensday Today from 4-7pm at the Funeral Home.
