POLAND - Prayers will begin Thursday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Church, for Richard "Dick" Moran, 84, who died Sunday afternoon at the Hospice House, surrounded by his family.
Dick was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of James F. and Mary Celestine (Tyrell) Moran.
He was a graduate of Jamestown High School and attended college. Dick was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Dick began his career at Interstate Sign Co. in sales and later owned and operated Interstate Roofing.
He was a member of St. Luke Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Dick was a family man and loved family picnics and holidays at home. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing, sailing and boating.
Dick is survived by his wife, the former Sandra Walters, whom he married Oct. 10, 1981; four daughters, Mary Beth Moran of Chicago, Kelly C. (Dave) Wolford of Canfield, Margaret M. Handel of Boardman, and Maureen Brice of Boardman; three sons, Kevin M. (Stephanie) Moran of Cleveland, Keith (Debbie) Walters of New Middletown, and Craig (Som) Walters of Chaska, Minn.; a sister, Cynthia (James) Gallagher of Jamestown, N.Y.; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Richard D. Moran, James N. Moran and Kurt Walters; a sister, Patricia Carlson; two brothers, Robert and James Moran; and a grandson, David Austin Wolford.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrot Rd. Poland, OH 44514.
