Robert Antal

NORTH JACKSON - Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for Robert P. Antal, 67, who passed away early Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Robert was born April 3, 1948, in Youngstown, a son of the late Paul Antal and Blanche Ratay Sekeres.

Robert was a 1966 graduate of Chaney High School.

Robert was a police officer and began his career in 1965. He was with the Lordstown Police department for 29 years. He also previously worked for Youngstown Parks, Youngstown Police Department, Youngstown State University Police Department, Mahoning County Sheriff's Office, Canfield Fair Police, Austintown Police Department, U.S. Steel Police in Youngstown, Lorain County Special Department, and Sheffield Lake Police. He was also a former chief of police for Jackson Township. Most recently, he was employed by American Services and Protection and worked security at the Mahoning County Courthouse.

Robert was a Mason with the Allen Lodge No. 276 in Columbiana. He also was a firearms instructor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley.

Robert leaves his wife, the former Joanne A. Rivalsky, whom he married July 3, 2010; two sons, Paul (Christina) Antal of Lake Milton and Steven (Cristal) Antal of Lordstown; granddaughters Madison and Miranda Antal; sister Judiann (Donald) Dohallow of Peachtree City, Ga.; goddaughter and niece Alysha Dohallow of Boston; godson and nephew Ryan Dohallow of Smyrna, Ga.; nephew Tyler Dohallow of Clovis, N.M.; and his former wife, Penny Antal of Newton Falls.

Robert was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Eugene Sekeres.

Family and friends may pay their respects Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.
