Youngstown--Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at the Youngstown First Free Methodist Church in Canfield for Robert W. Boomhower, age 80, of Austintown, who died early Tuesday morning at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Robert was born Oct. 13, 1923 in Youngstown, the son of Jess W. and Eliza Millie Humpheries Boomhower and was a lifelong area resident.
Robert was employed as a custodian at Austintown Fitch High School and then worked at General Motors, Lordstown as a paint inspector until his retirement April 1987. He was a Army veteran of WW II where he served in the Field Artillery Unit in the European Theater of Operations, D-Day, and in the Battle of the Bulge . He was a member of the Youngstown First Free Methodist Church in Canfield where he was head usher for many years, chairman of the Board of Trustees, member of the official board and active in the L.L.M.F. and was a graduate of Scienceville High School.
He leaves his wife, the former Margaret Simons, whom he married Oct. 5, 1946; three daughters, Barbara Ambrose of Austintown, Brenda Mark Ketzler of Columbus and Jo Ellen Doug Langmack of Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, Elmer and George Boomhower, both of California; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ira, Arthur, and Jesse Boomhower; two sisters, Dorothy Simons and Lettie.
Friends may call from 6 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
