POLAND - Robert Carlson, 61, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack in Sarasota, Fla. on April 13.
He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn, of nearly 30 years; their children, Neal and Alexandra (partners Beth Jewett and Steve Mayo, respectively); his sister, Barbara Sullivan (William); father-in-law Gino LaMarca; brother-in-law Gino LaMarca (Debra); loving nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Born in Youngstown in 1955, to Walter (Swede) and Dorothy Carlson, Bob attended Woodrow Wilson High School and was a star basketball player at Youngstown State University.
His life's work was dedicated to educating, motivating and coaching young adults.
He taught at Campbell Memorial High School for 35 years and coached the basketball team to many successful seasons. He was an avid golfer and spent many of his retired days on the golf course.
Bob was loyal, thoughtful and kind, and treated everyone like family. He will always be loved and admired by the countless lives he touched, including his lifelong friends, Mark Cherol, Rey Notareschi, Terry Moore and Bob Rutkousky.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at the Lariccia Family Community Center at Boardman Park.
A memorial dinner will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Bob's family has requested donations to support his passion for education and basketball. A scholarship fund will be established in his name to benefit students of Campbell Memorial High School and Boardman High School.
