BOARDMAN ? There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick?s Church on Oak Hill Avenue on Monday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. for Robert L. Hanahan, 82, who passed away at home Thursday morning, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born Jan. 31, 1928, in Leetonia, the son of Paul D. and Myrtle Crum Hanahan.
He was a graduate of Castle Heights Military Academy and The Ohio State University with a degree in Architectural Engineering.
Bob co-founded Hanahan-Strollo Architects in 1956 with Rebell Strollo and remained in that partnership until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and a registered architect in 10 states.
Bob was a member of and active in many professional and community organizations during his lifetime including: President of Youngstown Area Architects, the Eastern Ohio Architects, The Mahoning County Watercolor Society, the Friars Club of St. Teresa Monastery, the Youngstown Playhouse Board of Directors, the Ursuline Century Club, President of the Fresh Air Camp for the Underprivileged, the St. Charles Parish Council, President of Optimists Club, Tanglewood Drive Homeowners Association, the Chesterton Club, the Kiwanis Club, the Ohio State University Alumni Association , the Delta Upsilon Fraternity at Ohio State, Youngstown Country Club, Youngstown Club, Tippicanoe Country Club and the City of Hope.
Besides his wife, Lorraine of Boardman, he leaves behind one son, Robert Mark of Greenville, S.C.; and three daughters, Laurie Howley Ken of Canfield, Patricia Sigmier, Harry of Rocky River and Paula Marburger Chris of Austintown.
He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Eilis and Kevin McCulloh, Patrick and Dennis Hanahan, John and Stephen Sigmier and Sarah Tim Buckley and Robert Howley; and one great-grandchild Colin Buckley.
His parents and his brother, Dr. Paul Hanahan preceded him in death.
Friends may offer condolences at the church from 9 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob?s memory to Hospice of the Valley and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
