YOUNGSTOWN - Private family services were held Saturday at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum for Robert S. Hindus, 84, who died early Thursday morning at his home.
Robert was born May 22, 1929, in Youngstown, the son of Stephan and Anna Turocy Hindus.
After graduating from Youngstown Woodrow Wilson High School, he began an over 35 year career in the steel industry retiring from US Steel in 1981. He was a charter member of St. Christine Church, enjoyed golfing, playing cards, traveling and was a fan of football and horse racing.
His wife, the former Lucille Rita Simione, whom he married Aug. 19, 1950, died Nov. 1, 2001.
He is survived his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jack Nething of Kent; a sister, Irene Welsh of Youngstown; three grandchildren, Courtney (Mark) Watt of Kent, Lesley (Chris) Sickle of Kent and Kim Nething of Columbus; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Aaron and Audrey.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Theodore.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley in Mr. Hindus' memory.
