Robert Md

Services will begin Wednesday at 12:30 PM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel and at 1:00 PM at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church for Robert J. Paul, Sr. MD, age 81, who died January 8, 2009 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Robert was born December 14, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Katherine Pollock Paul.

Dr. Paul served the United States Army as a paratrooper and was stationed in Japan during the occupation after WWII. He was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and Ohio State University Medical School class of 1954. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Phi Chi Fraternity, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Fraternity. In 1955 he married the former Dolores Fortunato of Youngstown, Ohio His career entailed general medical practice from 1956-1961 in Niles, Ohio and then returned to Ohio State University to specialize in radiology; where he was also a professor in radiation oncology. He continued his radiology practice in Warren, Ohio from 1965-1986 until his retirement. During this time he was also president of the medical staff and chairman of the department of radiology at Trumbull Memorial Hospital and also was a clinical professor at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. He retired to Palm Beach Gardens, FL for 21 years prior to moving to Jacksonville, FL in 2006 to be nearer to family members.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores, to whom he was married for 53 years; three children, Elaine Paul MD of Columbus Ohio, Dr. Robert J. Paul, Jr., MD of Columbus, Ohio and Lynne Petrizzo, ARNP
of Jacksonville, FL., four grandchildren; Marissa and Stephen Briggs and Jessica and Christie Paul, and his brother David Paul MD of Columbus Ohio.

Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM Wednesday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.


Dr. Paul was a passionate Buckeye fan and his family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Ohio State University Development Fund in his memory.
