AUSTINTOWN - Robert A. Komara Sr., 88, passed away early in the morning Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Center. He was surrounded by his three children in love, serenity and grace.
Robert was born May 18, 1920 in Youngstown, the son of John W. and Mary Baytosh Komara.
He was a 1938 graduate of Wilson High School and later served in the Navy during WWII.
He was a man of precision, patience and persistence. Being a consummate entrepreneur his entire life, he founded Komara Television in 1944. Later he expanded as president of Komara Electronics, Consumer Electronics and Rakland Development Corporation until his retirement.
As a student of life, he was a charter member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. As a man of flight, he earned his private pilots license. As a man of the sea, he was the captain of the ³OBK², formerly docked in Ocean City, Md. History, fine food and music, particularly opera, were passions he shared throughout his life.
Mr. Komara enjoyed horseback riding, particularly the rides he and his bride would share during their younger years on the trails in Mill Creek Park. Later they became world travelers holding Italy closest to their hearts. Robert will always be remembered and celebrated by his family as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
His legacy continues through his daughter, Sandra Mae Komara of Peoria, Ariz.; a son, Robert A. Sheila Komara Jr. of Canfield; a daughter, Deborah Anne James Bokesch of Austintown; two sisters, Genevieve Ralph Kaercher of Barrington, Ill. and Claire Neill of Salina; a brother, Virgil Joetta Komara of Huntington Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Olga E. Bertrand, whom he married July 12, 1941, and died Oct. 26, 1997; a sister, Margaret Massey; and three brothers, Jacob Komara Kent, John J. Komara and David Komara.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial tribute of the life of Robert and his wife, Olga, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at the Calvary Cemetery Chapel.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515 in Robert¹s memory.
