MINERAL RIDGE - Prayers will begin Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Our Lady of Sorrows, Holy Name Church, 613 N. Lakeview, Youngstown, for Robert Layko, 71, who died suddenly Wednesday at home.
Robert was born April 7, 1946, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Marie (Boury) Layko.
He was a 1964 graduate of Ursuline High School and received a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Youngstown State University.
Robert worked as a salesman and engineer for Packard for 40 years until retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War.
Robert enjoyed all sports, especially golf and football. Most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandsons, whom he loved dearly.
Robert is survived by his wife, the former Joan Costarella, whom he married Jan. 3, 1967; two sons, Anthony Layko of Niles and Robert (Helen) Layko Jr. of Lowellville; two brothers, Deacon Ron (Nancy) Layko of Youngstown and Ralph (Janet) Layko of Cary, N.C.; three grandsons, Dominic, Vincent, and Erik Layko; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
