A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 29th at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, with Pastor Reid Lamport officiating, for Robert M. Mulichak, 69, who passed away Wednesday evening at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman.
Robert was born Aug. 4, 1946, in Youngstown, the son of John and Mary (Zayac) Mulichak.
He was a 1965 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended the University of Texas at El Paso on a football scholarship. He returned home to Youngstown to care for family and finished his studies receiving his associate degree from Youngstown State University. Robert worked with the Standard Slag Company for 24 years as a lab technician and then as a lab technician and quality control manager for Holcim US Inc. for the years following until retiring in 2012.
Robert was a devoted father through his love of sports. He volunteered his time coaching his children in Poland Community Baseball, Poland Youth Soccer, and was a volunteer and assistant coach for the Poland High School Football program from 1986-1994. Prior to coaching his children he coached Basketball and Football for Byzantine Catholic Central School of Youngstown. Bob "Bubber" was also passionate about cars. He was the proud owner of a 1937 Chevy and enjoyed building cars. He was a member for over 20 years of the Youngstown Rod and Custom Car Club. He was also a member of Cross Culture Church, and was on the Pit Crew for his sons racing team at Sharon Speedway.
To cherish his memories he is survived by his devoted wife the former Elaine Muransky, whom he married Oct. 14, 1967; son Brian (Penny) Mulichak of Liberty; a daughter Melissa (Dan) Kellgren of Poland; two brothers, Jack (Carol) Mulichak of Poland and Eugene (Sharon) Mulichak of Poland; three grandchildren, Paige, Karter and Luke; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nancy Williams and his nephew Steve Mulichak.
The Mulichak family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, where they will receive family and friends from 5 to 7 pm on Monday and also one hour prior to the service from 10-11am, on Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material tributes take the form of donations to either The American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association or Angels for Animals.
