Roger R. Kreps, 74, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 4, 1949, Youngstown, to the late Jack L. and Dorothy Mowen Kreps.
Roger led a remarkable life filled with achievements and contributions to his community. His educational journey began at Boardman High School, where he excelled in both academics and athletics. As a standout athlete, Roger received 11 letters at Boardman and was later inducted into their Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding achievements. Notably, at the age of 15, he held the nation's best time in the half mile. Furthering his education, Roger earned a bachelor's degree from Ashland University and later pursued a master's degree from YSU.
Roger devoted 16 years of his life to educating and coaching at West Branch High School before venturing into entrepreneurship. From the age of 10, Roger tagged along with his father Jack to work and eventually learned how to plaster. The early training in construction laid the foundation for the evolution from teaching to starting his own construction company. He was the proud owner and President of Roger Kreps Drywall and Plastering Inc. for 33 years. Over the years he served as an Officer on the Executive Committee of Builders Association, President of the Mahoning Division of Builders Association, and President of Painters & Decorators Contractor Chapter. Roger was a Trustee on both NE Ohio Carpenters as well as Cement Mason & Plasterers Joint Apprenticeship Committee. His commitment to both his students and his business was unwavering, leaving a lasting impact on those he encountered.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Roger was known for his passion for golfing, as a member of Tippecanoe Country Club and the former Fonderlac Country Club. He found joy and relaxation on the golf course, showcasing his competitive spirit and love for the sport. Roger was especially proud of his win in the Tippecanoe Member/Guest Invitational with his son-in-law, Steve, in 2010.Throughout his lifetime, Roger achieved numerous accolades worth commemorating. In 2019, he was honored as a Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame inductee for Track and Field and Cross Country. Additionally, Roger Kreps Drywall & Plastering Inc. was recognized as one of the Top 50 Contractors in North America for Walls & Ceiling Magazine in 2013.
While his accomplishments in business and athletics were impressive, his true passion was his family. Roger and Mary Ann had a beautiful marriage and partnership. Roger was an inspiration to his daughters with his positive attitude and strong work ethic. The time spent with his grandchildren, Marielle and Calista, was very special to him and brought the biggest smile to his face.
Described as a good man and hard worker by those who knew him best, Roger's legacy will live on.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary Ann Pirko Kreps; two daughters, Natalie (Steve) Mowry of Aurora, and Tiffany Kreps of FL; cherished granddaughters, Marielle and Calista Mowry; as well as his brother, Ron (Karen) Kreps of Canfield.
Roger R. Kreps will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A visitation will be held on July 26th, 2024, 9:30 to 10:45 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Parish followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
