A prayer service will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m., at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Poland chapel followed by a mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Church for Rosamond Shannon, who died Tuesday morning at Hospice of the Valley.
Rosamond was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Archibald and Irene (Canniff) Hottenstein.
She was a 1948 graduate of Ursuline High School. She then graduated from Kent State University with a B.A. in Sociology and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She worked at Cedar Point, Ohio Bell and Livingston Department Store.
Rosamond was a member of St. Charles Church. She was the founder of the Altar and Rosary Society, a member of the Altar Guild and Garden Club, and the past president of Home and School at St. Charles. She was a member of Holly and Ivy Garden Club and she was actively involved in Right to Life.
She was a co-founder of the Ulster Project in Youngstown, which allowed families to host teens from Northern Ireland during the summer.
Rosamond played the piano since age four and loved to sew.
She married John on October 20, 1956, who departed this life December 13, 2007.
Rosamond leaves her daughters, Kathleen Shannon of Boardman, Kristen (Sean) Thornton of Canfield; her sons, Timothy of Boardman and Dan (Kerry) of North Lima; 11 grandchildren, Kevin, Christopher, Debora, Lily, and Declan Shannon; Nolan and Brady Shannon; Emma, Keegan, Finn and Delaney Thornton.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her grandson, Jacob Shannon.
Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ursuline High School in memory of Rosamond Shannon.
