AUSTINTOWN - Private family services were held today, Sept. 24, 2008 at St. Joseph Church in Austintown for Rosario ³Russ² Nicosia, 86 who passed away Tuesday morning at his home, surrounded by his family.
Rosario was born June 17, 1922 in Newark, N.J., the son of Guiseppi andCarmella Parisi Nicosia.
Russ was a mason by trade and became a supervisor at the General Motors Plant in Bloomfield, N.J. He had also attended Rutgers University and Newark College of Engineering. He moved to Canfield in 1968, and worked as a maintenance supervisor, retiring after 30 years of service.
He had served in the Army Air corps during WWII, where he flew over 35 missions over Germany as a flight engineer. He was also a member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown.
He lived a full and happy life and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, the former Claudia ³Penny² Kula, whom he married March 14, 1991; a son, Michael Nicosio of New Jersey; two daughters, Susan Horvath of Ohio and Carol A. DiFabio of Georgia; grandchildren, Melissa Schaid of Texas, Michael Nicosia of New Jersey, Jessica Bok of New Jersey, and Nicholas R. DiFabio of Georgia; two stepchildren, Jacqueline Kula of Youngstown, and James Kula of Austintown; and two stepgrandchildren, Cortney and Nicholas Kula.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Antoinette Palermo, whom he married June 16, 1945 and who died Aug. 23, 1984; a sister, Nancy; and four brothers, Rosario, Michael, Anthony and James Nicosia.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the donor¹s favorite charity in Mr. Nicosia¹s memory.
