Rose Kohowski

NEW MIDDLETOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Church, for Rose Kohowski, 94, who died Monday afternoon at Masternick Memorial Nursing Home.

Rose was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Anton and Julia (Toth) Petrich.

She attended Sts. Peter and Paul grade school and South High School. She quit a few month before graduation to help provide for her family. Rose was employed in retail at S.H. Kress Co. and Grayson’s Dress Shop in downtown Youngstown.

She was very proud of her Croatian heritage and loved listening to Croatian music programs as well as all other ethnic music.

Her husband of 64 years, Matt Kohowski, whom she married Sept. 14, 1946, passed away Nov. 3, 2010.

Rose and her husband were devoted parishioners for over 50 years at St. Stanislaw Roman Catholic Church. When Rose became a resident at Windsor Assisted Living, she attended Mass officiated by Msgr. William Connell, pastor of the Holy Family Church, where she became a member.

In addition to her parents and husband, Rose was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Krizan and a brother, Charles Petrich.

Rose will be lovingly remembered by a brother, Joseph Petrich Sr.; a sister-in-law, Camille Allen of Warren; and many nieces and nephews of the Petrich, Kohowski, Krizan and Tabaka families.

Family and friends may call from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

The family would like to thank Windsor Assisted Living for their loving care and kindness. Her gratitude continued to the staff and employees at Masternick Health Care for their care and help during her last months.

The family also would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for their care and compassion.
