AUSTINTOWN - Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for Roy A. Yeany, 77, who died Saturday evening at home surrounded by his family.
Roy was born Nov. 30, 1940, in Clarion, Pa., the son of George and Carrie (McSparren) Yeany.
He worked as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. For the last 11 years he worked at the detached mail united at American Church before retiring in 2003.
Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served his county in Korea and Thailand during the Vietnam War.
He was the former vice president and shop steward for the Youngstown Local of the American Postal Workers Union, member of APWU Retirees, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the American Legion Post 301.
Roy enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Downtowners League at West Side Lanes for 25 years. He also had a passion for cars.
Roy’s wife, the former Betsy Jo Walters, whom he married June 8, 1963, died Dec. 16, 2006.
He is survived by three sons, Steve Yeany of Austintown, Dan (April) Yeany of Youngstown and Mike Yeany of Youngstown; and two brothers, Willis Yeany of Summerville, Pa. and Harry (Lina) Yeany of North Benton.
Roy was also preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Roy’s family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
