BOARDMAN - Services will be Friday at 11:00 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel for Russell H. Ruhl age 83 of Burkey Rd. Austintown who died Wednesday morning at the Sateri Home in Boardman.
Russell was born November 3, 1920 in Coitsville, Twp..
He had attended Wilson High School, and then served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II. As a crew member of the Destroyer U.S.S. O'Brian he had survived its sinking, by floating for over a week on a raft before being resqued.
He had worked as a brakeman for the B & O Railroad for almost 40 years before retiring in 1982. He and his wife had also been the owner and operators of Colleen's Restaurant and Pizza in Austintown from 1962 to 1971.
His wife the former Colleen A. Grabe whom he married August 19, 1949, died April 6, 1991.
He is survived by a daughter Peggy Robert, Jr. Jaskowak of Ellsworth, three sons Russell Wayne Tracy Ruhl of North Jackson, Ronald Darlene Ruhl of Arkansas, and Andrew Kathy Ruhl of Canfield, and four grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Mandy, and Matthew.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 PM, and Friday from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
