Russell Wurst

BOARDMAN - Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, Youngstown, for Mr. Russell F. Wurst, 94, who died Tuesday morning at Hospice House, surrounded by his family.

He was born Nov. 15, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn., a son of Charles and Mae Wurst.

Russell was an Army Technical Sergeant during World War II, where he served for three years in Northern France and Central Europe. He worked for The Northern Pacific Railroad in Minnesota as a draftsman and moved to this area in 1964, where he went to work at Youngstown Steel Door as a production engineer. In 1990, he joined his son, Deane, at Tele-Solutions. Russell was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 213, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was an avid golfer, golfing only one month ago with his sons and grandson.

The love of his life was his wife, the former Frances E. Hart (they met roller skating), whom he married June 6, 1942, and she died Aug. 25, 2000.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Russell (Linda) Wurst of Strongsville and Deane (Marilyn) Wurst, with whom he made his home; seven grandchildren, Stacie (John) Zoccali, Jason (Alicia) Wurst, Russell (Jennifer) Wurst, Michael Wurst, Steven (Karen) Sinatra, Rob Sinatra and Cindy Sinatra; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances; and several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, or on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
