TWINSBURG - Ruth Ondash Galvin, 87, of Twinsburg, formerly of Girard, passed away Jan. 5, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.
Ruth was born May 5, 1929, in Youngstown to Anna (Hvizdos) and Stephen Ondash.
She attended Holy Name School and Chaney High School, and also earned a degree in Education from Youngstown College, now Youngstown State University. She began her teaching career at Ursuline High School in Youngstown.
After her marriage to James J. Galvin on Feb. 8, 1958, she left teaching to start a family and raise her children. She returned to teaching in 1970 at Cardinal Mooney High School and eventually retired from the Trumbull County Career and Technical Center in Warren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Ondash; and sisters Theresa Ondash, Bertha Marchiori, Stella Tarantine, and Martha Brace.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Catherine Gilboy (Brian) of Twinsburg; sons Raymond (Susan) of Fairview Park; Gregory (Amy-Lyon) of Wadsworth; a sister, Dorothy Hoeffel of Satell, Minn.; and her grandchildren, Anna (Corey) Linsley, Erin Galvin and fiancé Joseph Lagasca, Brendan Gilboy, Sam Lyon, Jessica Lyon, Maggie Galvin, and Jimmy Galvin.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 12, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, located at 4303 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown, Ohio. Calling hours will also be held in the Gathering space of St. Cosmas and Damian Church, located at 10419 Ravenna Road in Twinsburg on Friday, Jan. 13, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 11 a.m.
