AUSTINTOWN - A memorial service will be held at a later date for Ruth J. Mechling, 82, who died peacefully Monday morning, May 1, at Omni Manor Nursing Home.
Ruth was born March 12, 1935, in Austintown, the daughter of Fred and Beatrice (Pershing) Russell.
She was a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, and was a bus driver for the Austintown Board of Education for 22 years, until retiring in 2002.
Ruth loved nothing more than spending time with her family, and was a lover of nature. She especially enjoyed watching the birds, with a particular fondness for Bluebirds and Hummingbirds.
She enjoyed golf and playing cards, and was a member of Tri-Hards Bowling League at Wedgewood Lanes since 1968. Ruth was a former member of UOA.
Ruth's husband, Jay T. Mechling, whom she married Jan. 14, 1952, died Dec. 16, 2014.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Carver of Portland, Ore., and Janet (John) Fire of Austintown; three sons, Thomas (Dianne) Mechling of Boardman, James "Rusty" (Judy) Mechling of Boardman, and Charles (Helen) Mechling of Niles; six grandchildren, Andrew Fire, Christine Fire, Greg Fire, Jay C. Mechling, Ann Carver and Jason (Lauren) Mechling; and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Russell Mechling.
Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Thomas Russell, Harry Russell, Carl Russell and John Russell; son-in-law Brian Carver; and granddaughter-in-law Amanda Fire.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Omni Manor and Hospice of the Valley for all of their kindness and support.
