STRUTHERS - Prayers will begin at 9:45 a.m., Monday, at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at the Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. for Sally A. Dascenzo, 81.
Sally was born April 1, 1934, in Youngstown, the daughter of John "Jack" and Elizabeth (McCabe) O'Neil.
She was a graduate of East High School and in addition to raising her five children, she worked as the office manager for Dr. Robert Johnson DDS for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Nicholas Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, and a volunteer in its soup kitchen. She loved to walk at Boardman Park and she enjoyed her monthly lunch group.
In addition to enjoying spending time with her family, Sally was a die-hard Cardinal Mooney and Notre Dame fan. She was a familiar face at many Mooney sporting events.
Her husband, Joe Dascenzo Sr., whom she married Nov. 21, 1953, died Dec. 8, 2002.
She is survived by three daughters, Joellen (Ed) Bury of Stow, Sally (Russ) Sheehan of Monaca, Pa., and Shannon (Steve) Kosko of Hudson; two sons, Joe (Kim) Dascenzo of Columbus and Jack (Monica) Dascenzo of Canton; 14 grandchildren, Dr. Luke (Christan) Bury, Conor and Nick Bury, Sara and Danny Sheehan, Madeline Bury and her fiancé, Paul Fisher, Dr. Cathleen (Peter) Zignego, Drew, Matt, Makenzie and Jennie Dascenzo, and Jack, Nathan and Sam Kosko; a sister, Shirley (Phil) Smith of Buffalo, N.Y.; a brother, Leonard (Darlene) Jones of Tampa, Fla.; her special friend, Gene McCarragher of Poland; and Bingo, her cat.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Karen Jones and Marlene O'Neil.
Sally's family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Cardinal Mooney High School scholarship fund in her memory.
