Sally Stein

AUSTINTOWN - A prayer service will be held on Monday at 12:15 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Christine Church in Youngstown, officiated by Fr. John Keehner for Mrs. Sally Stein, 75, who died Thursday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Sally was born July 1, 1941, in Youngstown, a daughter of Francis Patrick and Mary Honora (Reddington) Hackett.

She was a 1959 graduate of Ursuline High School, and received her RN degree in 1962 from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. Sally worked as a RN at University Hospital in Cleveland, then the Intermediate Medical Unit at St. Elizabeth, Dacas Homecare and MVI Homecare, where she retired from in 2002. She was a member of St. Christine Church and its Health and Wellness Committee.

Sally leaves the loves of her life, her husband, Jim W., whom she married Nov. 28, 1963; her son, James P. (Stacey) Stein of Austintown; her two daughters, Debbie (Vince) Pecchia of Boardman and Susan (Carl) Montalbano of Austintown; her best friend and sister, Grace (Robert) Gerst of Austintown; and her brother, Frank (Mary) Hackett of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Vince, Dominic, A.J. and Maria Pecchia, and Jimmy and Sierah Stein; and four stepgrandchildren, Ryan Bortner and Michael, Domenic and Tom Montalbano.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Ellen Hackett.

Her Catholic faith was very important to her, and she had multiple prayers that she recited daily for everyone in her life. Sally's family meant everything to her. She would always say "family is family no matter what."

Sally always believed so strongly and she instilled in her children that you need to celebrate birthdays, holidays, good times and the importance of being together.

Sally loved decorating her house, having parties and cooking for her family and friends. She cherished family traditions, and was so very very proud of her grandchildren. Sally took great pride in supporting and caring for her friends and relatives, and she enjoyed every minute of it.

She was blessed to have a wonderful circle of nursing friends that she cherished and shared her life with, especially Geri Kosar, Mary Logue and Patty Pinkerton.

Sally loved traveling, family vacations, especially to the ocean, and just going for "rides" in the car with her husband.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
