AUSTINTOWN-Services will be Friday at 10:00 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, and at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Sam Pitoscia age 76 of Westgate Blvd., who passed away Tuesday morning at Forum Northside Hospital from complications from heart surgery after a five day illness. Sam was born March 25, 1928, in Youngstown, the son of Anthony and Lena D'Andrea Pitoscia. A 1946 graduate of East High School, he was a W.W.II Army veteran serving during the occupation of Japan in the 3rd Transportation Military Railroad Service, where he served as the operator of the Sannomyia Railroad Station. He was a 1953 graduate of Youngstown College, and had worked in the office of the Lake Shore Motor Freight Company for 27 years until its closing, he later worked for the Carpenters Union Local # 171 for ten years, before retiring in 1990. He was an aviation enthusiast having been a licensed private pilot for over 50 years. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the local chapter of the Mended Hearts, American Legion Post # 301, and had been presently serving as secretary for Carpenters Local # 171 retirees.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rita Peluso whom he married November 22, 1956, two daughters, Judy John Rohrbaugh of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Patti Pitoscia of Norcross, Georgia, a son Bill Suzi Harklerode Pitoscia of Austintown, a sister, Rosemarie Baun of Boardman, two sisters-in-law, Viola Cast of New Castle, and Vincenza Sarocka of Hemet, California, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 PM to 8 PM Thursday evening at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of donations in Sam's memory to either the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center Building Fund 4490 Norquest Blvd. Austintown 44515, or the Mended Hearts c/o Cathy Rees 550 Saw Mill Run Rd. Canfield, Ohio 44406.
