POLAND - Prayers will begin Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Samuel J. Fiumara Jr., 87, who died early Monday morning at Hospice House surrounded by his family.
Samuel was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Youngstown, the son of Samuel and Elisa (Pussino) Fiumara Sr.
He was a graduate of East High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Korean War.
Samuel worked his entire career as a commercial refrigeration technician at Dieter Refrigeration until retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Holy Family Church, the Plumbers and Pipe Union for 57 years, the Christ Our Savior Knights of Columbus 4471 in Struthers, SNPJ Club and the Bessemer Croatian Club.
Samuel enjoyed gardening, polka dancing, traveling and most of all, spending time with his large family.
His wife, the former Rosella Yarab, whom he married June 7, 1952, died Feb. 19, 2014.
Samuel is survived his daughter, Sandy (Rich) Jones of Poland; four sons, Tom (Rita) Fiumara of New Middletown, John (Sandy) Fiumara of New Middletown, Joe (Ann) Fiumara of New Middletown and Bob (Jackie) Fiumara of Denver; two sisters, Vickie Murphy of Poland and Elizabeth (Gene) Celio of Youngstown; a brother, Lou Fiumara of Boardman; eight grandchildren, Jeannie Fiumara (Dave Breitfelder), Joanne, Dom (Amy), Angelina, Sam, Tucker, Ella Fiumara, and Ryan (Jazmin) Jones; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother Tony Fiumara.
Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Knights of Columbus Rosary service will be held Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
