CANFIELD - Prayers will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Selma "Sally" (Ball) Marrie, 94, who passed away suddenly Sunday evening, Oct. 20, 2013, at St. Elizabeth's Health Center.
Born July 19, 1919, in Youngstown, Sally was the daughter of the late William and Vivian (Creutz) Ball.
A 1937 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Sally worked as an assembler at Ohio Lamp in Warren for 10 years and also at the YMCA in Warren. Prior to World War II, she was a driver for the government in Washington, D.C.
Sally was a member of St. Christine's Church and loved to sing. She was a member of the Arion Chorus, which was the women's chorus of Sheet and Tube and also sang with the Happy Wanderers chorus. She was an athlete, playing tennis, softball, bowling and dancing. She was even playing tennis well into her 70s with her grandchildren. Sally enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles and word searches. Above all Sally was a mother and grandmother. She loved and adored her family.
Sally married Stephen Marrie on Nov. 26, 1947. Together they shared 63 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in July of 2011.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Susan P. (Rich) Payne of Canfield; her 10 grandchildren, including Renee (Frank) Waldo, William Smith, Brad (Melissa) Payne and Brian Payne; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Audrey Russo of California; two brothers-in-law, Gilbert Mickler of Youngstown and John Marrie of Tennessee; and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Stephen and William J. Marrie; a sister, Dorothy Perris; and two brothers, William and James Ball.
Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home in Austintown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
