Youngstown- Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday at the Idaho Road Alliance Church, 250 Idaho Rd., for Shirley Matheny, age 71, of Youngstown, who died Friday evening at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Shirley was born in Lost Creek, West Virginia to the late Lonnie and Oma Paugh; in 1953 she moved to the Youngstown area.
She is a member of the church, where she taught Bible School, Sunday School, was a former Head Deaconess, and was involved with the ministry to the shut-ins.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers Lonnie, Johnny, and Jack Paugh.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 54 years, Denzil "Bud" Matheny, three sons, Denzil Laurie Matheny, Jr. of Brookfield, Dave Doreen Matheny of Youngstown, and Dan Gina Matheny of Youngstown; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Gonzolez of West Virginia, and Betty Maximin of Virginia.
Friendes may call Monday from 6-8pm at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and Tuesday at the church from 10-11am.
