Stella Mamajek

July 30, 1925 — April 10, 2013

POLAND - Born Stella Sniezek in Benwood, W.Va., to Sophie and Michael, she left her Earthly home at the age of 87, on April 10, to join her Lord and Savior in everlasting joy and peace. When diagnosed with cancer, Stella's spirit continued to be strong and courageous, lifted by her profound faith.

Following her graduation, Stella moved with her family to New Castle, Pa., where she spent the war years working at a munitions plant.

There she met the love of her life, Edward L. Mamajek, whom she married on June 1, 1946. Stella and Ed reared two daughters, Catherine and Stella A., and the family moved to Ohio in 1967. Stella was the ideal wife and mother and once her daughters were in college, she began a career in retail. Her last position was at the Joseph Horne Company at Southern Park Mall in Boardman.

Stella was a generous and giving woman who volunteered hundreds of hours at the Youngstown Hospital Association (now ValleyCare Northside Medical Center). A devout Catholic, she was a member of the Holy Family Parish and the Senior Group of Holy Family.

Stella enjoyed travel and she and her family spent many summers traveling across the United States. Later, she and Ed cruised the Caribbean, Bermuda and Hawaii. They traveled throughout the British Isles and Europe, with a special trip to her parents birthplace in Poland, Europe. She enjoyed her motorcoach excursions to New York City, Niagara Falls, Atlantic City and New England.

Stella enjoyed socializing and hosted many a lively card game. She was an example of how a lady acts and always showed a kind and gentle demeanor toward her family and friends. Never one to shy away from new ideas, she used a computer into her 80s and found happiness in life's simple pleasures as well. Her caring and nurturing manner placed others needs before her own. Her wit and intellect made for many a fascinating and stimulating conversation.

Stella was preceded in death by her mother; father; brother, Victor; and beloved husband, Ed.
She leaves behind to honor and cherish her memory, Catherine (Albert) Lind and Stella A. Mamajek; her sister, Mary Petros; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Stella Mamajek's name to Angels for Animals, 4750 West South Range Road, Canfield, OH 44406, or to a charity of choice.

The family will receive guests from noon to 1 p.m., one hour prior to the requiem Mass, which will be held at the Holy Family Parish in Poland on April 12, at 1 p.m.

The Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home will perform interment at Madonna Cemetery in New Castle.
