BOARDMAN - Prayers will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Matthias Church for Stephen J. Begalla, 52, who passed away unexpectedly at his residence Wednesday July 1, 2009.
Stephen was born July 23, 1956 in Youngstown, the son of Stephen J. and Eleanore E. Ekoniak Begalla.
Stephen was a 1974 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and received his associate degree in accounting from Youngstown State University. Stephen worked in the Youngstown Public School System as a teachers aide with the Department of Special Education. He served on the Boardman Township Fire Department for the past 18 years. He was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Matthias Church in Youngstown.
Stephen leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Diana L. Mauch, whom he married Oct. 12, 2002; his father, Stephen Begalla of Pulaski, Pa., stepfather, William Agnes Janosko of Austintown; a sister, Michele Dennis Minotti of Columbus; a niece, Jennifer Justin Viau of Columbus; a nephew, Dr. Dennis Brooke Minotti D.O. of Southlake, Texas; a stepson, Joseph Elizabeth Skowron of Austintown; two step-daughters, Laurelin Anthony Wendt of Youngstown and Mary Skowron of Richmond, Va.; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Stephen was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanore E. Janosko and grandparents, Agnes and Michael Ekoniak and Anna and Stephen Begalla.
The family will be receiving friends Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of donations to St. Matthias Church in Stephan's memory.
